Digging Deeper into Shakeology, Part 2 - Premium Protein and Amino Acids

Last Saturday, I dove deeper into Shakeology and wrote about how it is not just a protein or weight loss shake, but truly a nutritionally dense food which is meant to be part of a lifestyle change. I will be spending the next few Saturday posts exploring the specific Superfood ingredients in more detail.

I do want to say, I am not a nutritionist or any type of health expert. I am, however, someone who is passionate about being as healthy as I possibly can be and sharing what I learn with others.

Honestly, we can all scour the internet for information and for these upcoming posts, I will do just that for you. As with anything, you are welcome to do your own research as well.

This week I want to explore the Premium Protein and Amino Acids in Shakeology, specifically- Whey, Pea, Chia, Quinoa, Flax, Sacha Inchi, Rice, and Oat Protein and how they benefit one's health.

Whey:
Medical News Today reports whey protein has multiple health benefits such as assisting with weight loss, has anti-cancer properties, lowers cholesterol, may improve the immune system with children who have asthma, and helps with lowering blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.

The concern with whey is for people who are allergic to milk, may be allergic to whey.

The Healthline article summary:  "Whey protein is an exceptionally healthy way to add more protein to your diet. It’s a quality protein source that is absorbed and utilized efficiently by the human body. This is particularly important for athletes, bodybuilders or people who need to gain muscle mass and strength while losing fat. When it comes to muscle gain and fat loss, protein is the king of nutrients. Whey protein seems to be even better than other forms of quality protein."

Pea:
The article from Mike Matthews on Legions Athletics provides incredible information about the pea protein and how it compares with whey.

Dr. Axe lists the benefits of pea protein as aiding weight loss, supporting cardiovascular health, may decrease kidney disease, increase muscle thickness, and regulates blood sugar.

Chia:
Dr. Axe shares, "Chia means “strength” in the Mayan language, and chia seeds were known as “runners’ food” because runners and warriors would use them as fuel while running long distances or during battle." Also, there are many benefits to chia, specifically, helping with skin and aging, digestive health, cardiovascular health, helping treat diabetes, boosting energy and metabolism, stronger bones, building muscles and losing weight, fighting breast and cervical cancer, and dental health.

Quinoa:
Quinoa is one of my favorite foods! It's fun to say and has great benefits such as being high in fiber, may improve your blood sugar and cholesterol levels and help with weight loss.  Check out the below links for more information.

Flax:
"Some call it one of the most powerful plant foods on the planet. There’s some evidence it may help reduce your risk of heart diseasecancerstroke, and diabetes. That’s quite a tall order for a tiny seed that’s been around for centuries."

Dr. Axe shares with us that flax seed helps improve the health of hair and skin,

helps lower cholesterol and treat hyperlipidemia, is high in antioxidants (Lignans), supports digestive health, may help prevent cancer, helps with weight loss, and helps decrease menopausal and hormonal imbalance symptoms.

Sacha Inchi:
Sacha Incki is a new food for me. I don't believe I have ever eaten it by itself. As with the other previous ingredients, Sacha Inchi can help with weight loss, lowering cholesterol, improve mood with serotonin, brain, bone, joint and heart health, improve vision, and improve skin and hair.

Rice:

We are all familiar with rice and I enjoy it immensely, white or brown. The below article lists several benefits of eating rice. One in particular got my attention in that eating brown rice may help prevent Alzheimer's disease. Sign me up!

There is additional information in the two below articles.

Oat Protein::

Oats is another food we are all familiar with and the below articles list various health benefits, the most common ones are digestive and cardiovascular health.

The bottom line is that the proteins and amino acids found in Shakeology assist with providing better health to you. Could you incorporate each of these foods into your diet? Sure! You betcha! Would it be expensive? Probably! Would it be tiring trying to figure out how and when to do so? Yup again! Does a Shakeology include all of these in one scoop? Yup, a third time!!

So one scoop of Shakeology provides all these amazing, ingredients with their remarkable health benefits? 1 scoop of Shakeology is less than $5, whereas all these ingredients listed below are $$ and would be eaten over the course of a day. Hmm. Seems to me, a Shakeology is the more cost and time effective choice!
