Strong and Courageous Women

Every May, my Girl Scout troop has a Strong and Courageous Women tea. The purpose is to give the girls a safe platform to speak in front of a group and honestly it's so fun to hear who they have chosen for their "strong and courageous woman". Understandably, a few choose their Mom's but there is such a wide range of strong and courageous women these girls research and then share with the troop. Also. every meeting we read about a strong and courageous women. For me, it is important for my girls and my Girl Scouts to know strong and courageous  women and to become these women!  There is no shortage of women to choose from.

As gung-ho as I am about Girl Scouts, it only makes sense that my first Strong and Courageous Woman would be Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts!

Below are two books that I read that I thoroughly enjoyed about Juliette Gordon Low!

"Here Comes the Girl Scouts" is a book I read with my Girl Scouts at the start of every school year! I just love it! The book is so positive and highlights how adventurous JGL was! The end of the book includes other prominent Girl Scouts which I think it important, especially as the girls get older and Girl Scouts isn't as "cool" anymore.

"Juliette Gordon Low: The Remarkable Founder of Girl Scouts" is more of an adult book. I appreciated learning about JGL as a woman and the challenges she faced as an adult and a wife. I loved her eagerness to create this group for the girls so they could go on adventures and not be limited by what society was telling them they were capable of.

If you are looking for books to read with your children, "Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls" and "Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls 2" are the ones we read from at our Girl Scout meetings! Sadly JGL is not included in either BUT there are 200 amazing strong and courageous women included in the books!
